SPANISH FORK — A Spanish Fork Fire Department truck crashed into several cars while en route to an injury crash on 1-15 on Thursday morning, and a driver of one of those vehicles caught the impacts on video.

The first two vehicles that were struck had a woman and four children in each car who were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Three firefighters on the truck were also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The crashes happened around 11:45 a.m. when the fire engine was northbound near Spanish Fork, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden said.

The truck entered the freeway in Spanish Fork and then crossed over into the emergency lane on the left to pass vehicles on its way to a crash, Roden said.

In a video submitted by one of the drivers hit by the truck, who has asked to remain anonymous, it appears that the fire truck hit several vehicles on its way to the initial incident. A total of nine cars were involved in the chain reaction, Roden said.

He said police are trying to figure out if the fire engine was driving too close or if a vehicle sticking out into the lane caused the series of crashes.
