ALPHARETTA, GA — Alpharetta firefighters have a “new toy” to help them put out fires.

The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety confirmed it has received a new truck known as a “Quint” that functions as both a ladder truck and engine.

“With us getting this new Quint, it allows us to continue to provide the same service to the citizens as we always have, but since it also has a ladder we are able to enhance that service by providing a second ladder within the city to respond to emergencies,” the department posted to Facebook.

According to the agency, the truck carries 400 gallons of water; has a 1,500 GPM pump; a 107-foot ladder and top notch lighting.

The truck will be based out of station 83 located on Westside Parkway in Alpharetta.

To inaugurate the new truck into the fire department, firefighters said they conducted a “hose down” and a “push back” —two practices that reportedly date back to the early days of horse drawn fire apparatuses.
