The Boise Fire Department is donating a fire engine to an Eastern Idaho department.
On January 10, Firth Fire Department caught fire and lost its firehouse, the contents inside, and two fire engines. Following the tragedy, fire departments across the state have been sending items to help. The City of Boise donated a fully loaded surplus fire engine that would have been otherwise been auctioned.
Boise Fire also donated various supplies to Firth.
“What started as a simple phone call to their fire chief has grown into a major donation effort by departments across the Treasure Valley and the state. Fire and EMS departments from all over Idaho have stepped up to help us support this volunteer fire department and give their members and the community they serve a fresh start,” Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer said.
Niemeyer continued applauding the spirit of cooperation.
“We appreciate the fact that no matter how big or small, we’re ready to help each other out in times of need,” he said.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Boise City Council approved the department’s request for ratification of the donation. The truck is a 2003 Spartan engine with 112,508 miles valued at $8,602.00.
“There’s a resolution to donate a fire engine from the city of Boise fleet that had aged out of our fleet to the firth fire departments because of the fire that they had that destroyed their own engine. I just wanted to call that out. I think it’s a really important thing for us to do and really appreciate the fire department,” Council President Elaine Clegg said.
The fire engine was delivered to the Firth department on January 18.
